Newly elected Pope Francis, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, appears on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica after being elected by the conclave of cardinals at the Vatican on March 13.

Today I met Msgr Francis at Good Shephard and we are both joyful that the new Pope Francis I has been elected to lead the church. My question to Msgr was why did the cardinals chose someone from latin America and his answer was this is the work of the holy spirit. More importantly it is also due to the fact that many catholics in the region of Latin Amercia no longer practise the faith with love but more ritual.
Conincidentally few weeks ago I was reading an article in NYT and it wrote about the catholic church challenges in the most populous catholic country.
