hp deskpro 8720 a5 duplex not printing

I had been having the same problem trying to print directly from a word processing program to A5 using this printer. When I created my document, I saved it from my word processing software into a PDF file.

If you save it as a PDF, it can even be created as an A4 document to begin with (just remember to allow for font size changes when it is shrunk onto A5 paper).

Once I save it, I open the PDF version. after checking that everything is where it should be, I hit (ctrl+P) to open the print dialogue.

Normally to adjust sizing I head straight for the "properties" tab right next to the printer selection box, and adjust sizing here.

To get adobe acrobat to print through this machine on A5 duplex, DON'T use these printer property settings.

Instead, look down below paper size and handling, and you'll see the option for "Print on both sides of the paper." Go ahead and select whatever you want here.

Then, a little further down, you will see a button marked "Page Setup." When you open this, it will give you an option to choose A5 size paper. This is the place to select it.

If you follow these, all going well you should be able to covince the printer to do what it is not supposed to do.

Just be aware that occasionally I do have trouble with paper jams when printing duplex A5.

Using this method I have succeeded in printing literally reams of documents duplex on A5. It can be a pain at times when I forget how to do it, but it's fantastic when it works!
