Eagles stand for Edusave Awards for Achievement, Good Leadership and Service (EAGLES)
she was nominated by her teachers for her work outside curriculum eg for winning broze at the SITF event and her role with fostering cyberwellness. Above and beyond I think this effort cannot be achieved without the guidance of all mentors, teachers and family.
As MP Tong said, there was an African proverb 'it takes a whole village to raise a child' , how true isn't it?
Of course one can argue it is not a level playing field if a kid do not have the support and financial means.
Therefore it is critical to provide quality education and resources for every kid formative years regardless of their financial and family background.
Having said that, I like to deviate to the subject of means testing. I think simply qualifying one for grants depending on residential address is not foolproof, it is flawed. How do you then qualify someone who lives in a 3 room flat but owns a business and a fleet of cars and still enjoy full subsidy. Similarly, there are cases of old folks who live in private resident and do not have the means, some might just be occupiers. I hope there will be a more measured form of means testing to strike a better balance.
