For those experiencing a mental health crisis, help will soon be available by dialing just three digits. Starting July 16, 2022, anyone in the US can dial or text 988 and contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Network.

The National Lifeline Suicide Prevention Network is a national network of local crisis centers that offer free, confidential emotional support for people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. Trained crisis counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Since its inception in 2005, the National Lifeline Suicide Prevention Network has received more than 20 million calls from people seeking support.

If you or a loved one is dealing with suicidal thoughts, help is available just by making a call or sending a text message. Call or text the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Network at 1-800-273-8255. This longer number will continue to work after 988 is launched nationwide.

There is also the option to chat online with a crisis counselor through the Lifeline website.
